On World Environment Day, we’re at the Kadıköy Environment Festival, sharing insights on mobile pastoralism and Sarıkeçili nomadic pastoralists under Geççi’s goat-hair tent. We’ll highlight how local communities like the Sarıkeçililer, with centuries-old practices, contribute to biodiversity and the climate crisis fight.

On World Environment Day, we are under Geççi’s goat-hair tent at the Kadıköy Environment Festival organised by the Municipality of Kadıköy.

At this year’s festival, with the theme of #GiveBenefitToNature, we will talk about mobile pastoralism and Sarıkeçili nomadic pastoralists whose lives and productions are based on the sustainability of nature, climate and wildlife. We will share how local communities such as the Sarıkeçililer, who have been protecting and caring for the lands they live on for centuries and thus are an integral part of the ecosystem, and traditional cultural practices such as mobile pastoralism play a key role in protecting biodiversity and combating the climate crisis. For that, we will present our blend of traditional ecological knowledge and the knowledge we have gained from our current scientific studies.

We are waiting for everyone under the goat-hair tent!
