The UNEA 4 resolution on “Innovations in Sustainable Rangelands and Pastoralism” urges states to promote sustainable practices and traditional knowledge, support rangeland restoration, and raise awareness globally. It also backs the proposal for an International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralism, recognizing the vital role of mobile pastoralism in conservation efforts.

Many organisations and people worked to make this Resolution, specifically on rangelands and pastoralism, happen. It is a great step forward towards the acknowledgement of the value of mobile pastoralism at a global level.
Resolution is urging and inviting States:
– to raise awareness & promote innovative solutions for sustainable rangelands & pastoralism taking into account traditional knowledge
– to strengthen global efforts to conserve & sustainably use rangelands acknowledging ongoing global efforts to introduce a proposal for an International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralism to the FAO’s Committee on Agriculture
– to support rangeland restoration through increased promotion of investments, incentives, market access, soil & water conservation, conservation & sustainable use of biodiversity, planned grazing & herding mechanisms etc.
