Posted on 2021-10-142024-10-12
Oct 14, 2021

As CBD COP 15 begins online, we emphasize the vital link between mobile pastoralism and biodiversity. Protected areas must be managed respecting mobile pastoralists’ inherent land rights, avoiding harmful policies like forced evictions and mobility restrictions. For more details, see our article “Mobile Pastoralism and Protected Areas: Conflict, Collaboration and Connectivity.”

As the online version of the CBD COP 15 begins, we would like to highlight the critical relationship between mobile pastoralism and biodiversity:

Protected areas should be managed in full compliance with the inherent rights of mobile pastoralists, especially their land rights, avoiding policies harming the integrity of communities, such as forced evictions & restrictions to their mobility.

For more information check our peer-reviewed article entitled “Mobile Pastoralism and Protected Areas: Conflict, Collaboration and Connectivity”. You can access the full article here.
