Notes from SBI-4 Side Event

The fourth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation (#SBI4) in Nairobi focused on achieving #BiodiversityPlan targets. Our side-event, co-organized with UNU-IAS and partners, discussed local subsidy impacts on Cultural Landscapes and Seascapes. We presented a global study’s preliminary findings, addressing policy coherence and reconciling nature’s values.

We are co-organising a side event at the SBI in Nairobi titled “What Incentives Work for Biodiversity at the Local Level?”The event will discuss the impacts of subsidies and incentives on biodiversity, focusing on Target 18 of the Global Biodiversity Framework, and involve various stakeholders. 

New Membership: The International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative

Yolda has been endorsed as Turkey’s first member of the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI). The initiative focuses on conserving biodiversity and promoting sustainable resource use in rural ecosystems. As part of this global network, Yolda is committed to supporting harmony with nature and preserving local cultures for sustainable resource management.

Updates from AMNC: Steering Committee Meeting in Cadiz

Last week, the Alliance for Mediterranean Nature & Culture (AMNC) gathered in Cadiz, Spain, to strengthen partnerships and discuss joint projects. We explored the links between cultural practices and biodiversity, enhancing knowledge on how these connections support community wellbeing. 

Inspirador for Possible Cities: How the Mediterranean is Looking After its Biodiversity

Our colleague Burcu Ateş was featured in Goethe Institut’s online magazine Zeitgeister, discussing cultural landscapes and sustainable land use practices. She highlighted the connection between rural biodiversity conservation and urban life quality, drawing examples from mobile pastoralism and the Alliance for Mediterranean Nature and Culture. The interview is part of the “Inspirador” project promoting sustainable cities worldwide.

Vultures and Mobile Pastoralism Workshop

The Regional Workshop on Mobile Pastoralism and Vultures, held in North Macedonia, brought together pastoralists and conservationists from the Balkans. Organized by Yolda Initiative and partners, it fostered dialogue to address human-wildlife conflict, set priorities, and co-create solutions to reduce vulture deaths.
