Our project, “A Cultural Landscapes-based Assessment: Coexistence of Nature and Culture on the Aegean Coast of Turkey,” funded by the French Embassy in Turkey, will map the coexistence of high biodiversity areas and traditional cultural practices, engaging local communities and stakeholders through fieldwork and meetings.

Our new project “A Cultural Landscapes-based Assessment: Coexistence of Nature and Culture on the Aegean coast of Turkey” entitled to be funded by the Embassy of France in Turkey!

Our new project proposes a mapping of the sustainable coexistence of high biodiversity areas and cultural and local values and practices of Aegean coastal areas. The project focuses on the assessment of biocultural values implying traditional cultural practices with its different formats (lagoon trap fishery, open sea trap fishery, small-scale artisanal fishery, collection of edible coastal plants, mobile pastoralism, traditional agriculture and spiritual practices, etc.) that sustainably coexist with the high biodiversity areas (Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) and/or Protected Areas) within the framework of the cultural landscapes/seascapes approach.

Within the scope of the project, we will conduct fieldwork on different sites in the Aegean region to engage with the problems on the ground as well as organise stakeholder meetings with the participation of local communities, conservationists, NGOs and local governments to gather multiple actors.

Stay tuned for more information!
